Taking care of dental veneers

Veneers are thin layers of material placed over the teeth to improve their shape and appearance and/or protect their surface from damage. Veneers are usually used to fix teeth that are discolored, chipped or broken, uneven or irregularly shaped or have gaps between them. Veneers provide a natural look, they are stain resistant and extremely durable.  At the same time, you’ll need to follow certain rules to make them last longer, giving you a bright and beautiful smile:

  • Good oral hygiene

Brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing once a day, and rinsing with mouthwash will help to keep your veneers in good shape. Make sure that you are using a soft toothbrush, since hard bristles, as well as abrasive toothpaste, can cause damage to your veneers.

  • Avoid biting or chewing on objects

Veneers can break or get damaged due to nail-biting or a bad habit of chewing on pens, pencils or other hard objects.

  • Avoid grinding or clenching teeth

Grinding or clenching your teeth may cause a severe damage to your veneers. Talk to our dentist in Whittier or Montebello about treatment options if you have a habit of clenching or grinding your teeth.

  • Avoid foods that can stain your teeth

Some food and drinks can darken your natural teeth. Although most veneers are stain-resistant, try to avoid drinks such as coffee, coffee, tea, red wine etc. to keep your teeth and veneers looking as white and natural as possible.

  • Prevent gum disease

Untreated gum disease can lead to receding gums, which in turn could impact the appearance of veneers. See Dr. Shahmanyan as soon as possible if you experience any symptoms of gum disease.

  • Regular dental check-ups
